Research & discovery

What are experts saying about habits?

There are two main takeaways from Judson Brewer, an American Psychiatrist and neuroscientist

The Habit Loop

A habit has a basic structure: A cue that triggers a behavior, a routine, and a reward. This is also called Positive Reinforcement

Self-Awareness

Understanding the consequences of our actions helps us to use cognition to control our behavior; form new habits

Main Assumption

On average, young adults lack commitment when they try to develop a new habit, either because their priorities change in time and/or because there is no sufficient awareness of their motivations

User Persona

Busy Diana

AGE: 30

OCUPATION: Marketing Analyst

ABOUT

Diana is a 30-year-old young professional who works in a demanding corporate job. She has a packed schedule, often working long hours. Despite her busy lifestyle, Diana is eager to make positive changes in her life and believes that developing good habits will help her achieve personal growth and overall well-being

However, Diana feels frustrated and stuck because she often stops developing her habits after a couple of weeks because it stops feeling like a priority

GOALS

  • Create a consistent routine

  • Improve her well-being (work-life balance)

  • Develop self-awareness and make intentional choices

Competitive Analysis

We learned that while reminders and motivational features such as streaks, third-party accountability, and rewards are standard among competitors, they don’t fully leverage behavioral science principles

I believe that Pro-Habitum should prioritize the basic structure of habits (cues, routines & rewards) to be more effective and to facilitate the development of self-awareness

Ideation

How Might We…

Prioritize Goals

Prioritize users’ goals based on their performance in a period of time

  • Push-up notifications

  • Completion rate statistics

Should have Features

  • Accountability System

  • Streak Count

  • Third-party integrations (apple health)

  • Data reports

MVP

The primary objective of the Pro-Habitum app, at the bare minimum, is to provide users with a better understanding of their chosen goals and habits and to keep them prioritized based on their motivations. By understanding their aspirations and prioritizing them, users can work flexibly towards their goals and stay committed long-term to achieve meaningful results
